SEDEMAC's variable speed solution comprises of an Engine controller EG1299 and an actuator.

SEDEMAC's EG1299 controller is a modern engine controller for telecom genset applications with user-friendly HMI and full graphics LCD. The EG1299 controller provides variable speed governing feature along with the option to switch over 0% droop governing with paralleling support.

The EG1299 controller also offers over-speed and under-speed protection, and load metering. RS485 port is provided for supporting remote communication.

Features such as real time clock (RTC), extensive event logging and magnetic pick-up sensing (for RPM) are also provided to support special customer requirements.

The actuator is designed and customized for precision motion control applications for engines with mechanical fuel systems.

The actuator sits on the engine and controls the stop/throttle lever of the fuel injection pump (FIP) to control the engine speed.

EG 1299 enables variable speed action of genset engines. Variable speed genset action involves changing the speed of the engine (and therefore the frequency at which power is generated) depending on the load. This makes sense in telecom towers for two reasons.

  • Most gensets used in this application operate for significant periods of time under part-load operation. Variable speed capability allows lower speed, higher torque operations under part-load conditions leading to fuel saving. See figure

  • Microwave electronics of telecom towers are DC powered. Typically, an SMPS is used to convert AC power (from the grid or DG) into DC primarily to charge battery banks. The SMPS is (largely) agnostic to input frequency negating the need to produce DG power which is synchronous with the frequency of the grid

  • Access to each parameter through PC software or keypad
